Description

Watermelon Mint Agua Fresca is a refreshing and vibrant beverage perfect for warm weather. Made with fresh watermelon, mint, lime juice, and a touch of sugar, this drink balances sweetness and citrus notes with herbal freshness. It’s ideal as a nonalcoholic refresher or can be served as a base for cocktails.

Ingredients

Mint Syrup

  • ¼ cup fresh mint leaves
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 4 cups water

Beverage

  • 5 cups cubed watermelon, seeds removed
  • ¼ cup fresh lime juice
  • 2 cups water
  • Fresh mint sprigs, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the Mint Syrup: In a small pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add the fresh mint leaves and granulated sugar, stirring until the sugar has fully dissolved. Remove the pot from heat, transfer the syrup to a heatproof container, and let it chill uncovered for about 30 minutes to infuse the mint flavor.
  2. Strain the Syrup: After chilling, strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl to remove the mint leaves. Discard the leaves.
  3. Blend the Agua Fresca: In a blender, combine the prepared mint syrup, cubed watermelon, and fresh lime juice. Blend on high speed until very smooth to create a vibrant pink mixture.
  4. Strain the Mixture: Pour the blended liquid through a fine mesh sieve into a pitcher to remove any pulp for a silky-smooth texture.
  5. Adjust Consistency and Serve: Stir in 2 cups of cold water to dilute the mixture to desired consistency. Serve the Agua Fresca over ice and garnish each glass with a fresh mint sprig for an appealing presentation.

Notes

  • For extra chill, refrigerate the Agua Fresca before serving.
  • Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less sugar in the mint syrup.
  • For a cocktail version, add tequila or rum to taste.
  • Use seedless watermelon or remove seeds before blending.
  • Mint sprigs add visual appeal and subtle aroma.
