Description

Tirokafteri is a vibrant and spicy Greek feta dip combining creamy feta cheese with roasted red peppers and a kick of chili, perfect as a flavorful appetizer or spread.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 medium roasted red peppers
  • 1 cup feta cheese (approx. 250g or 8.5oz), crumbled
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar (can substitute with other vinegar)
  • 1 red chili pepper or chili flakes (adjust to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Gather the roasted red peppers, crumbled feta cheese, olive oil, red wine vinegar, and red chili pepper. Ensure the red chili pepper is fresh and your workspace is ready for blending.
  2. Combine in Food Processor: Add the roasted red peppers, feta cheese, olive oil, and red wine vinegar into a food processor. Wearing gloves, chop the red chili pepper in half and add half to the processor.
  3. Blend the Dip: Process the mixture until smooth and creamy. Check the taste and if you prefer a spicier dip, add more chili pepper (or chili flakes) and process again until you reach the desired heat and consistency.
  4. Serve: Transfer the dip to a serving bowl. It can be enjoyed immediately or chilled for enhanced flavors. Serve with pita bread, crackers, or fresh vegetables.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of chili pepper to match your preferred spice level; start mild and add more gradually.
  • Roasted red peppers can be homemade or store-bought for convenience.
  • Wear gloves when handling chili peppers to avoid skin irritation.
  • For a tangier dip, you can substitute red wine vinegar with lemon juice or white vinegar.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
