Description

This Tex-Mex Burger with Cajun Mayo is a flavorful and juicy grilled beef burger spiced up with a zesty Cajun mayonnaise. Perfectly seasoned ground sirloin patties are grilled to perfection, topped with pepper Jack cheese, and served with fresh lettuce and tomato on toasted buns for a mouthwatering burger experience with a spicy twist.

Ingredients

Cajun Mayo

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning

Burger Patties

  • 1 ⅓ pounds ground beef sirloin
  • ½ cup diced white onion
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 teaspoons Cajun seasoning

Toppings and Buns

  • 4 slices pepper Jack cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns, split
  • 4 leaves lettuce
  • 4 slices tomato

Instructions

  1. Preheat Grill: Preheat an outdoor grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil the grate to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Cajun Mayo: In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise with 1 teaspoon of Cajun seasoning. Set this spicy mayo aside to add flavor to your buns later.
  3. Make Burger Patties: In a large bowl, mix ground beef sirloin, diced white onion, chopped seeded jalapeño, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, and the remaining 3 teaspoons Cajun seasoning until well combined. Divide the mixture into 4 equal parts and flatten each into a patty.
  4. Grill Burgers: Place patties on the preheated grill and cook for about 5 minutes per side, or until no longer pink in the center. During the last 2 minutes of grilling, top each burger with a slice of pepper Jack cheese to melt. The internal temperature should reach at least 160°F (70°C) for safety.
  5. Assemble Burgers: Spread the prepared Cajun mayo on the split buns. Layer each bottom bun with a lettuce leaf, tomato slice, and the grilled burger topped with melted cheese. Cover with the top bun and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For less heat, remove all seeds from the jalapeño before chopping.
  • Ensure the internal temperature of the burgers reaches 160°F (70°C) for safe consumption.
  • You can substitute ground sirloin with ground chuck for a richer flavor.
  • Toasting the buns lightly on the grill adds extra texture and flavor.
  • Adjust the amount of Cajun seasoning in the mayo and patties according to your spice preference.
