Description

This Spooky Bark Recipe is a fun and festive treat perfect for Halloween celebrations. It features a rich, melted semisweet chocolate base topped with a colorful assortment of candy corn, Halloween sprinkles, candy eyeballs, and a variety of mix-ins like pretzels, leftover Halloween candy, nuts, dried fruit, and more. Easy to make and ideal for parties or a seasonal snack, this chocolate bark is both visually appealing and deliciously crunchy.

Ingredients

Chocolate Base

  • 1 pound semisweet or bittersweet chocolate chips (or chopped up chocolate bars)

Toppings

  • 1/3 cup candy corn
  • 1/4 cup Halloween sprinkles and/or candy eyeballs
  • Pretzels
  • Leftover Halloween candy (like M&Ms, Reese’s pieces or candy bars, chopped if necessary)
  • Nuts (like almonds, peanuts or shelled pistachios)
  • Dried fruit (like cranberries or chopped dried apricots)
  • Broken up potato chips
  • Oreo cookies (especially Halloween-colored ones, chopped)
  • Flaky sea salt
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Gummy worms
  • Granola
  • Broken up graham crackers
  • Flaked or shredded coconut
  • Roasted pumpkin seeds (pepitas)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Pan: Line a rimmed baking pan with parchment paper to prevent sticking and for easy cleanup.
  2. Melt Chocolate: Place the chocolate chips or chopped bars into a double boiler and heat gently, stirring frequently until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth. (Alternatively, microwave the chocolate in short bursts, stirring between each, until fully melted.)
  3. Spread Chocolate: Pour the melted chocolate onto the prepared pan. Using a knife or offset spatula, spread the chocolate evenly to a thickness of about 1/4- to 1/2-inch.
  4. Add Toppings: Sprinkle candy corn, Halloween sprinkles, candy eyeballs, and your choice of other toppings evenly over the melted chocolate surface.
  5. Harden Chocolate: Allow the bark to harden at room temperature for at least 2 hours or until very firm. Alternatively, place the pan in the refrigerator and chill for about 30 minutes until firm enough to break apart.
  6. Serve or Store: Once hardened, break the bark into pieces. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container in a cool place to keep fresh.

Notes

  • If using a microwave to melt chocolate, heat in 20-30 second intervals, stirring well between each, to avoid burning.
  • Feel free to customize toppings with your favorite Halloween candies or seasonal mix-ins.
  • Store the bark away from heat or humidity to prevent melting or stickiness.
  • Using an offset spatula helps spread the chocolate evenly for a smoother bark surface.
