Ingredients
Bread and Butter Mixture
- 1 loaf French bread
- ½ cup butter (softened)
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt
- ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
Sloppy Joe Mixture
- 1 pound ground beef
- ⅓ cup green bell pepper (seeded and diced)
- ½ cup yellow onion (diced)
- 1 teaspoon garlic (minced)
- 8 ounces tomato sauce
- ¾ cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1½ tablespoons yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon paprika
Cheese Topping
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350℉ and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Prepare Garlic Bread: Slice the French bread loaf lengthwise into two halves. In a small bowl, combine softened butter, garlic salt, and Italian seasoning thoroughly. Spread this garlic butter mixture evenly over both halves of the bread placed on the baking sheet.
- Cook Ground Beef: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the ground beef. Cook for 6-8 minutes, breaking it up with a spatula until browned evenly.
- Add Vegetables: To the browned beef, add diced onions, green bell peppers, and minced garlic. Cook for 4-5 minutes until the vegetables soften. Drain excess grease from the skillet to reduce fat content.
- Make Sloppy Joe Sauce: Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, salt, onion powder, and paprika into the beef mixture. Simmer uncovered for 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.
- Assemble and Bake: Divide the sloppy joe mixture evenly between the two bread halves, spreading it over the garlic butter. Sprinkle mozzarella and cheddar cheeses evenly on top of each loaf. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes until the cheeses melt and turn golden brown.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Slice into serving pieces and enjoy your savory Sloppy Joe Garlic Bread!
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sloppy joe mixture if you prefer some heat.
- Use freshly minced garlic for more vibrant garlic flavor in the butter spread.
- Drain the cooked beef properly to reduce grease and keep the dish less oily.
- You can substitute Italian seasoning with a blend of dried oregano and basil if desired.
- Store leftovers refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven for the best texture.
