Ingredients
Ingredients
- 1 bag pretzel rods (about 18–24 rods)
- 1 bag white candy melts (approximately 10 oz)
- 1 bag red candy melts (approximately 10 oz)
- 1 bag blue candy melts (approximately 10 oz)
- Patriotic sprinkles (optional, about 1/4 cup)
Instructions
- Melt Candy Melts: Place each color of candy melts in separate microwave-safe containers. Heat one color at a time in 20-30 second increments, stirring thoroughly between each interval until smooth. Alternatively, melt them gently in a double boiler over simmering water on the stove, stirring until fully melted.
- Dip Pretzel Rods: Pour the melted candy melts into tall, narrow glasses for easy dipping. Dip each pretzel rod about three-quarters of the way into one color, allowing excess to drip off before placing them on a parchment-lined baking sheet or wire rack. For American Flag designs, start by dipping the rods fully in white candy melts and let set, then dip just the tip into the blue candy melts.
- Prepare for Decorating: Transfer any remaining melted candy melts into piping bags or small squeeze bottles. If the candy begins to harden, warm gently in the microwave for 5-10 seconds to restore flow.
- Decorate With Drizzles: Drizzle red and white candy melts over the dipped pretzels as desired. For the flag effect, create red and white stripes along the white-dipped rod with a blue tip at the end. Add patriotic sprinkles while the candy is still wet if using.
- Set and Serve: Allow the candy coating to fully set at room temperature before serving. Display pretzel rods on a platter or upright in mason jars or cups for an attractive presentation.
Notes
- Make sure candy melts are completely smooth and free of lumps before dipping.
- If candy melts thicken during decorating, reheat briefly to restore consistency.
- Use parchment paper or wire racks to prevent sticking and ease cleanup.
- For quicker setting, place the dipped pretzels in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes, but avoid humidity to prevent candy bloom.
- Patriotic sprinkles add festive color but are optional.
