Description
Mummy Hot Dogs are a fun and festive twist on the classic hot dog, wrapped in whole wheat crescent roll dough to resemble spooky mummies. Perfect for Halloween parties or kids’ snacks, these hot dogs are easy to prepare and bake to golden perfection, then decorated with candy eyes or mustard dots to complete the mummy look.
Ingredients
Ingredients
- 8 uncured (nitrate-free) hot dogs
- 1 8 oz package of refrigerated whole wheat crescent roll dough
- 16 mini candy eyes or dots of mustard (for the eyes)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Prepare Dough: Remove the crescent roll dough from the can and separate it along the perforations into 4 large rectangles. Press the dough at the perforations to seal the seams thoroughly.
- Cut Dough Strips: Cut each dough rectangle lengthwise into thin strips. Thin strips work best for wrapping and can be gently stretched to make wrapping easier.
- Wrap Hot Dogs: Wrap each hot dog with the dough strips, leaving a small gap near the top for the mummy’s eyes. Criss-cross the dough strips over the hot dog to mimic mummy bandages.
- Bake: Place the wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until the dough turns golden brown and is fully cooked.
- Add Eyes: Once baked and slightly cooled, add mini candy eyes onto each mummy’s face area, or alternatively, use small dots of mustard to create eyes.
Notes
- Using whole wheat crescent roll dough adds a healthier twist with extra fiber.
- Make sure to seal the perforations in the dough well to prevent the mummies from falling apart during baking.
- Mini candy eyes can be found in most baking or craft stores, or you can use small mussard dots as a savory alternative.
- Serve these mummies warm with your favorite dipping sauces like ketchup, mustard, or cheese sauce.
- These make great Halloween party snacks or fun kid-friendly meals.
