Ingredients
For the Spread
- ⅓ cup mayonnaise
- 3 tablespoons ketchup
- 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
- 2 tablespoons minced red onion
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar
- ½ teaspoon granulated sugar
For the Bowl
- 1 medium sweet potato, cut into ¼-inch sticks
- 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
- Kosher salt, as needed
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- Freshly ground black pepper, as needed
- 2 heads romaine lettuce, chopped
- 1 cup grape tomatoes, halved
- 1 medium Hass avocado, pitted, peeled, and diced
- ½ cup diced red onion, divided
- ¼ cup chopped bread and butter pickles
Instructions
- Make the Spread: In a small mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise, ketchup, sweet pickle relish, minced red onion, white vinegar, and granulated sugar. Stir well to combine, then cover and refrigerate until ready to use, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Prepare Sweet Potato Fries: Preheat your oven to 400ºF (200ºC). Spread the sweet potato sticks evenly on a sheet pan. Drizzle with olive oil and season with kosher salt. Roast in the oven for about 20 minutes, tossing halfway through, until the fries are crispy and cooked through.
- Cook the Ground Beef: Heat a large cast-iron pan over medium heat and add a bit of olive oil to warm. Add the ground beef along with ¼ cup of the diced red onion. Cook, stirring occasionally and breaking up the meat with a wooden spoon, until the beef is browned, about 6 minutes. Sprinkle Worcestershire sauce over the beef, season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste, then remove from heat and set aside.
- Assemble the Bowls: Divide the chopped romaine lettuce evenly among serving bowls. Top each bowl with roasted sweet potato fries, the cooked ground beef mixture, halved grape tomatoes, and diced avocado. Drizzle the prepared sauce over each bowl, then garnish with the remaining diced red onion and chopped bread and butter pickles. Serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- The sweet potato fries can be roasted ahead of time and reheated for convenience.
- Adjust the seasoning in the ground beef according to your preference for spice or saltiness.
- The sauce can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator to deepen the flavor.
- For a spicier kick, add a dash of hot sauce to the spread or sprinkle some chili flakes over the bowl before serving.
- This recipe is naturally gluten-free as long as the Worcestershire sauce used is gluten-free.
