Description

Hibachi-style Steak Bites are quick and flavorful pan-seared steak pieces cooked in a savory sesame and soy sauce blend, finished with a hint of lemon juice and butter for a rich, tender taste. Perfect as an appetizer or main dish, these steak bites bring classic Japanese hibachi flavors into your kitchen in just 15 minutes.

Ingredients

Steak Bites

  • 1 ½ teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil
  • 1 pound lean steak, trimmed and cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon butter, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

Garnish

  • Sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat oil: Add the sesame oil and avocado oil to a cast iron skillet and heat over medium-high heat. Swirl and tilt the pan to evenly coat the surface with the hot, shimmery oil, preparing it for cooking the steak bites.
  2. Add steak and seasonings: Place the bite-sized steak pieces into the hot skillet along with soy sauce, butter, fresh lemon juice, salt, and freshly cracked black pepper. Stir well to coat the steak evenly with all the flavorful liquids and seasonings.
  3. Cook steak: Cook the steak bites for 2 to 5 minutes, depending on your desired doneness. Stir or flip occasionally to ensure all sides get a nice brown sear. Once cooked to preference, transfer the steak to a plate or cutting board and let it rest for 3 to 5 minutes to retain juices and tenderness.
  4. Add sesame seeds garnish: Just before serving, sprinkle the steak bites with sesame seeds if using to add a subtle nutty crunch and enhance presentation.

Notes

  • Use a cast iron skillet or heavy-bottomed pan for best searing results.
  • Adjust cooking time based on the thickness of steak pieces and your personal doneness preference.
  • For gluten-free option, use tamari or a gluten-free soy sauce variant.
  • Room temperature butter helps it melt quickly and blend smoothly with other ingredients.
  • Resting the steak after cooking helps redistribute the juices for tender, juicy bites.
