Ingredients
Chicken Burger Patties
- 1 ½ pounds ground chicken
- ½ cup finely chopped yellow onion
- ¼ cup finely chopped fresh cilantro
- 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
- 2 teaspoons chopped jalapeño
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ⅓ cup finely shredded cheddar cheese
- Kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
Toppings
- 4 burger buns, toasted
- 1 cup guacamole
- Sour cream, as desired
- Lettuce leaves
- Sliced red onion
Instructions
- Prepare the Grill. Heat an indoor grill pan or outdoor grill over medium heat to get it ready for cooking your chicken patties.
- Mix the Burger Ingredients. In a medium bowl, combine the ground chicken with chopped onion, cilantro, garlic, jalapeño, ground cumin, paprika, cheddar cheese, salt, and freshly cracked black pepper. Use your hands to gently mix until evenly incorporated, being careful not to over mix.
- Form Patties. Shape the mixture into four patties about ½-inch thick, pressing firmly to hold them together and prevent falling apart while grilling.
- Grill the Burgers. Place the patties on the preheated grill and cook for 5-7 minutes per side until fully cooked through and internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
- Assemble and Serve. Place each cooked patty on a toasted burger bun and top with guacamole, a dollop of sour cream, lettuce, and sliced red onion. Serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- To avoid over mixing the ground chicken, pinch off 1-inch pieces from the packaging into a bowl before adding other ingredients; this helps mix evenly without toughening the meat.
- These chicken burgers can be grilled outdoors on a barbecue grill or indoors using a grill pan or cast iron skillet with great results.
- Pressing the patties firmly helps keep them intact and reduces the chances of falling apart during cooking.
