Description

Baked Meatballs are a deliciously tender and juicy classic American dinner option, perfect for busy weeknights. Made with a flavorful mix of ground beef, soaked bread, sautéed onions, and aromatic spices, these meatballs deliver a satisfying comfort food experience with minimal effort.

Ingredients

Meatball Mixture

  • 3 slices bread
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
  • 1/2 yellow onion, minced
  • 2 pounds ground beef (80/20)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cracked black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and lightly spray a 9×13 inch baking pan with vegetable oil spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Soak the Bread: In the bowl of a stand mixer, add the milk to the slices of bread and allow them to soak until soft.
  3. Sauté Onions: Melt 2 tablespoons of the butter in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the minced yellow onions and cook until they become translucent but do not brown, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
  4. Combine Ingredients: To the bowl with the soaked bread, add the ground beef, eggs, minced garlic, kosher salt, cracked black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, sautéed onions, and the remaining tablespoon of melted butter.
  5. Mix the Meatball Mixture: Using the stand mixer on low speed, mix until the bread breaks apart and all ingredients are thoroughly combined. Mixing without hands ensures the mixture stays cold and the meatballs remain tender.
  6. Form Meatballs: Using a meatballer, ice cream scoop, or your hands, form the mixture into balls about the size of a ping pong ball.
  7. Bake: Place the formed meatballs evenly into the prepared baking pan. Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for 20 to 22 minutes, or until cooked through and slightly browned on the outside.

Notes

  • If you prefer crispier meatballs, extend the baking time by a few additional minutes, keeping an eye to avoid overcooking.
