Ingredients
Pie Dough
- 1 dough for single-crust pie (enough to fit a 12-inch pizza pan)
Apple Filling
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 4 medium baking apples, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch slices
Topping
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/3 cup rolled oats
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
Additional
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup caramel ice cream topping or caramel apple dip
- Vanilla ice cream, optional (for serving)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Dough: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pie dough to fit a 12-inch pizza pan. Carefully transfer the dough to the pan and fold under or flute the edges to form a crust border.
- Mix Apple Filling: In a large bowl, combine granulated sugar, 3 tablespoons flour, and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Add the peeled and sliced apples and toss gently until all the slices are evenly coated with the sugar mixture.
- Arrange Apples on Crust: Arrange the coated apple slices in a single layer on top of the dough, placing them in a circular pattern to cover the crust completely.
- Prepare and Add Topping: In a separate bowl, combine 1/2 cup flour, brown sugar, rolled oats, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Add the softened butter and mix with your fingers or a pastry cutter until the mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle this topping evenly over the arranged apples.
- Bake the Pizza: Place the assembled apple crisp pizza into the preheated oven. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
- Add Caramel and Serve: Remove from the oven and immediately drizzle with 1/4 to 1/2 cup caramel ice cream topping or caramel apple dip. Serve warm, optionally topped with vanilla ice cream for an indulgent dessert.
Notes
- Use baking apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for the best balance of tartness and firmness.
- If you prefer a crispier crust, prebake the dough for 5-7 minutes before adding the apples.
- Adjust cinnamon levels to your taste; add a pinch of nutmeg or allspice for extra warmth.
- For a dairy-free version, substitute butter with a plant-based alternative and serve with non-dairy ice cream.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated; the topping may lose some crispness but remains delicious.
