Description

Spider Web Taco Dip is a festive and flavorful Tex-Mex appetizer perfect for Halloween or any party. Layers of warm refried beans seasoned with taco spices, creamy guacamole, and a decorative sour cream spider web topping make this dip visually striking and delicious. It’s easy to prepare and served with warm tortilla chips for dipping.

Ingredients

Refried Beans Layer

  • 16 ounce can refried beans
  • 2 tablespoons taco seasoning
  • 1/4 cup taco sauce

Guacamole Layer

  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Pinch of garlic powder

Toppings and Garnishes

  • 1/2 cup sliced ripe black olives
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup chopped ripe tomato
  • 1 green onion, thinly sliced

Sour Cream Spider Web

  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk

Others

  • Plastic squirt bottle (optional, for sour cream decoration)
  • Plastic spider ring (optional, decoration only)
  • Warm tortilla chips, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare Refried Beans: In a saucepan, stir together the refried beans, taco seasoning, and taco sauce. Warm the mixture over medium heat until heated through, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  2. Spread Beans: Transfer the warm bean mixture to the bottom of a glass pie plate, spreading it evenly to form the base layer.
  3. Make Guacamole: In a bowl, mash the ripe avocado and mix in lime juice, salt, and garlic powder until smooth and well combined.
  4. Add Guacamole Layer: Spread the prepared guacamole evenly over the top of the refried beans layer.
  5. Prepare Sour Cream Mixture: In a small bowl, thin the sour cream by stirring in 2-3 tablespoons of milk until it can be easily squeezed out of a plastic squirt bottle or piping bag.
  6. Create Spider Web Design: Using the squirt bottle, draw concentric circles on top of the guacamole layer with the sour cream. Then, using a toothpick or skewer, drag lines from the center outward to create the spider web effect.
  7. Add Toppings: Sprinkle sliced black olives, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped tomato, and sliced green onion evenly around the edges of the dip.
  8. Decorate: Place a plastic spider ring in the center of the dip for a festive, decorative touch. Note: the spider is for decoration only and not edible.
  9. Serve: Serve the taco dip immediately with warm tortilla chips for dipping.

Notes

  • Use a warm glass pie plate or shallow dish for easy layering and serving.
  • If you don’t have a plastic squirt bottle, you can use a small zip-top bag with a corner snipped off to pipe the sour cream.
  • The plastic spider ring is purely decorative; do not eat it.
  • For a spicier dip, add extra taco seasoning or a few dashes of hot sauce to the beans layer.
  • Can be prepared ahead and refrigerated, but add chips just before serving to keep them crisp.
