Ingredients
- 2 large onions (white or yellow)
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional)
- 3/4 cup cold sparkling water or ice water

Instructions
- Slice onions into thin rings and gently separate them.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, pepper, and optional spices.
- Gradually add sparkling water while whisking until a smooth batter forms.
- Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing excess to drip off.
- Heat oil in a deep pot or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
