Description

These soft, buttery, and fluffy dinner rolls are the perfect side for any meal. Easy to make from scratch, they rise beautifully and deliver comfort and satisfaction every time.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (plus more as needed)
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F/45°C)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add softened butter, egg, salt, and 1 cup of flour to the yeast mixture. Stir to combine.
  3. Gradually add the remaining flour, kneading until the dough is soft and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal portions. Shape into balls.
  6. Arrange the rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake rolls for 15–20 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Brush warm rolls with melted butter and serve.

Notes

  • Add garlic powder or herbs to the dough for a savory twist.
  • Use honey and a sugar glaze for a sweet variation.
  • Replace part of the milk with heavy cream for extra richness.
  • Use half whole wheat flour for a rustic version.
