Description

These Texas Toast Sloppy Joes are a delicious twist on the classic sandwich, featuring thick, buttery garlic toast topped with saucy ground beef and melted cheddar cheese. Perfect for quick weeknight dinners or game day snacks, this easy 30-minute recipe is full of bold, comforting flavors your family will love.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 6 slices frozen Texas toast (or thick-sliced bread, buttered and toasted)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned.
  2. Add diced onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in ketchup, tomato sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, chili powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes, until the mixture thickens.
  4. Meanwhile, bake Texas toast according to package directions or toast buttered bread slices under the broiler until golden.
  5. Top each toast slice with a generous scoop of the sloppy joe mixture.
  6. Sprinkle with cheddar cheese and broil until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve immediately.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for beef.
  • Add jalapeños or spicy BBQ sauce for a kick.
  • Leftover meat stores well for up to 3 days in the fridge—toast bread fresh before serving.
  • The sloppy joe mix freezes well for up to 2 months.
