Description

Pepperoni Pizza Tacos are a delicious fusion of two beloved comfort foods: pizza and tacos. This unique recipe features crispy pepperoni taco shells filled with gooey melted cheese, pizza sauce, and savory pizza toppings, making it a fun and mouth-watering twist on taco night!

Ingredients

  • 24 slices of pepperoni
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup pizza sauce
  • ½ cup cooked Italian sausage (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Fresh basil leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Arrange the pepperoni slices in a circle on the baking sheet, slightly overlapping, to form a taco shell shape.
  4. Bake the pepperoni for 8-10 minutes, or until crispy and golden.
  5. While baking, combine mozzarella cheese, pizza sauce, oregano, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes in a bowl.
  6. Remove the pepperoni shells from the oven. Spoon the cheese mixture into each shell, then add cooked Italian sausage (if using).
  7. Bake the filled taco shells for 3-5 more minutes to melt the cheese.
  8. Garnish with fresh basil if desired, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Vegetarian Option: Skip the sausage and load up with extra veggies like peppers and mushrooms.
  • Spicy Option: Use spicy pepperoni or add a drizzle of hot sauce.
  • Cheese Variations: Feel free to use cheddar, provolone, or parmesan cheese for a different flavor profile.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container for 2-3 days. Keep shells and fillings separate to prevent sogginess.
  • Reheating: Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes until the cheese melts and shells become crispy again.
