Description

These M&M Cookie Bars are a delightful twist on the classic chocolate chip cookie, transforming it into a chewy, colorful bar that’s perfect for any occasion. Packed with semi-sweet chocolate chips and vibrant M&M candies, they offer a fun and festive treat that’s both easy to make and irresistibly delicious.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1⅓ cups M&M candies, divided
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper or foil.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Fold in 1 cup of M&Ms and the chocolate chips.
  6. Press the dough evenly into the prepared pan. Top with the remaining ⅓ cup of M&Ms, pressing them gently into the dough.
  7. Bake for 22–30 minutes, or until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  8. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a festive touch, you can use seasonal M&Ms like red and green for Christmas or pastel colors for Easter.
  • Try adding ½ cup of crushed pretzels for a salty-sweet combo.
  • Swap the semi-sweet chocolate chips with milk chocolate, white chocolate, or butterscotch chips for a different flavor twist.
  • If using salted butter, reduce the added salt in the recipe to ½ teaspoon to balance the flavors.
  • Mini M&Ms work great in this recipe and can add a fun twist.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4–5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
