Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1⅓ cups M&M candies, divided
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper or foil.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, beat the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Fold in 1 cup of M&Ms and the chocolate chips.
- Press the dough evenly into the prepared pan. Top with the remaining ⅓ cup of M&Ms, pressing them gently into the dough.
- Bake for 22–30 minutes, or until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
Notes
- For a festive touch, you can use seasonal M&Ms like red and green for Christmas or pastel colors for Easter.
- Try adding ½ cup of crushed pretzels for a salty-sweet combo.
- Swap the semi-sweet chocolate chips with milk chocolate, white chocolate, or butterscotch chips for a different flavor twist.
- If using salted butter, reduce the added salt in the recipe to ½ teaspoon to balance the flavors.
- Mini M&Ms work great in this recipe and can add a fun twist.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4–5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
