Description

A quick and flavorful Korean Beef Bowl recipe, perfect for a weeknight dinner. Ground beef is cooked in a savory, sweet, and slightly spicy sauce made with brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, and garlic. Garnished with green onions and sesame seeds, this dish comes together in just 15 minutes and serves 4.

Ingredients

Sauce

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/4 cup reduced sodium soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red-pepper flakes (or more to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger

Main

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 green onions (thinly sliced)
  • 1/4 teaspoon sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, reduced sodium soy sauce, sesame oil, crushed red-pepper flakes, and ground ginger until the mixture is well combined and smooth.
  2. Cook the Beef: Heat the vegetable oil in a large cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and cook, stirring constantly, for about 1 minute or until fragrant, taking care not to burn it.
  3. Brown the Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook it for 3 to 5 minutes, breaking it apart with a spatula or wooden spoon as it cooks, until the beef is browned. Drain any excess fat from the skillet to keep the dish from being greasy.
  4. Combine and Simmer: Pour the prepared soy sauce mixture into the skillet with the cooked beef. Add the thinly sliced green onions and stir everything together until well combined. Allow the mixture to simmer and heat through for about 2 minutes to develop the flavors.
  5. Serve and Garnish: Plate the beef immediately. Garnish with additional green onions and sprinkle sesame seeds on top if desired. Enjoy your flavorful Korean Beef Bowl warm.

Notes

  • Use reduced sodium soy sauce to control the saltiness in the dish.
  • Adjust crushed red pepper flakes according to desired spice level.
  • This dish pairs well with steamed rice or cauliflower rice for a low-carb option.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Ground turkey or chicken can be used as an alternative to ground beef for a lighter version.
