Description

Ingredients

  • 1 box (425 g) yellow cake mix
  •  cups (360 ml) water
  •  cup (80 ml) vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 6 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3 tbsp (45 g) brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) lemon juice
  • ¾ cup (95 g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup (100 g) brown sugar
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup (115 g) cold unsalted butter, cubed

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 °F (180 °C). Grease a 9×13‑inch pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk cake mix, water, oil, and eggs until smooth. Spread batter evenly in the pan.
  3. In a separate bowl, toss apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Spread them over the batter.
  4. Mix flour, brown sugar, and salt. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Sprinkle topping over the apples.
  5. Bake 40–55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean (a few moist crumbs are fine).
  6. Let cool completely in the pan before slicing. Optionally dust with powdered sugar or serve with ice cream.
