Description

A comforting twist on the classic sloppy joe, these French Onion Beef Sloppy Joes combine savory ground beef with caramelized onions and melted cheese on toasted buns.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 46 slices provolone or mozzarella cheese
  • 46 hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook slowly until golden brown and caramelized.
  2. Add minced garlic and cook for about a minute until fragrant.
  3. Add ground beef, break it apart, and cook until browned and fully cooked.
  4. Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Pour in beef broth and simmer until thickened.
  5. Toast hamburger buns. Spoon beef mixture onto bottom halves of buns.
  6. Top each with a slice of cheese and place the top bun over.
  7. Optional: Broil the assembled sloppy joes for 1 minute to melt the cheese.
