This homemade A1 steak sauce delivers bold, tangy, and savory flavors using simple pantry ingredients. Perfect for steaks, burgers, and more, it’s a customizable and quick alternative to the store-bought version.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup tomato paste
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon corn syrup or molasses
- 1 tablespoon raisin paste (or soaked and blended raisins)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Combine tomato paste, water, and apple cider vinegar in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Add Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, corn syrup or molasses, lemon juice, and raisin paste.
- Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, ground cloves, salt, and black pepper.
- Bring the mixture to a light simmer, then reduce heat to low and cook for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Once the sauce thickens and flavors meld, remove from heat.
- Allow to cool and blend for a smoother texture if desired.
- Transfer to a glass jar and refrigerate before use.
Notes
- Adjust sweetness or tanginess to taste by modifying molasses or vinegar amounts.
- Add hot sauce or cayenne for spice, or smoked paprika for a smoky twist.
- Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or freeze in small portions.
- Reheat gently in a saucepan or microwave, stirring occasionally.
