Description

This quick and easy Ground Beef Tacos recipe features seasoned lean ground beef cooked with a blend of spices and tomato paste, served warm in tortillas with fresh toppings like lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and red onions. Perfect for a flavorful weeknight meal that comes together in 25 minutes.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons cumin
  • ½ teaspoon oregano
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • ½ cup water

For Serving

  • 8 corn or flour tortillas
  • Lettuce, finely chopped
  • Shredded Mexican cheese blend or cheddar cheese
  • Tomatoes, chopped
  • Red onions, chopped

Instructions

  1. Heat the Olive Oil and Brown the Beef: Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the lean ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until browned and cooked through, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain any excess fat from the pan.
  2. Add Spices and Simmer: Stir in the chili powder, cumin, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Then add the tomato paste and water, stirring well to combine. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer the mixture until the sauce thickens slightly, about 3 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Assemble and Serve: Warm the tortillas according to package instructions or on a dry skillet. Spoon the seasoned ground beef mixture onto each tortilla and top with chopped lettuce, tomatoes, shredded cheese, and red onions or your preferred toppings. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef to reduce excess grease and keep the dish healthier.
  • Adjust the level of chili powder depending on your preferred spice level.
  • For a gluten-free option, use corn tortillas instead of flour tortillas.
  • Leftover beef mixture can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated.
  • Additional toppings such as sour cream, avocado, or salsa can be added for extra flavor.
