Description

This Garlic Naan Bread recipe is a delicious and aromatic flatbread made using an air fryer for a quick and easy cooking process. Soft and fluffy with a perfect blend of garlic and buttery flavors, these naans are ideal for pairing with Indian curries or as a savory snack. The dough is enriched with yogurt and gently air-fried to achieve a light golden crust without the heaviness of frying or baking.

Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup warm milk
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons plain yogurt
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons grated garlic
  • 3-4 tablespoons water for kneading

Garlic Butter Topping

  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 teaspoons finely chopped garlic
  • 2 tablespoons chopped coriander or cilantro leaves

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: Whisk warm milk, active dry yeast, and 1 tablespoon of sugar in a bowl. Cover and let it rest for 5 minutes until frothy on top. If it does not froth, start over with fresh yeast.
  2. Prepare Dough Mixture: In another bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, plain yogurt, vegetable oil, and grated garlic. Add the activated yeast mixture to this bowl.
  3. Knead Dough: Mix everything together and gradually add 3-4 tablespoons of water as needed to form a soft, smooth, and elastic dough.
  4. Let Dough Rise: Lightly grease the dough with oil, cover it with plastic wrap, and place it in a warm spot for at least 2 hours until the dough doubles in size.
  5. Divide and Shape Dough: Transfer the risen dough to a clean surface. Divide it into 8 equal portions and roll each into a round shape about ½ inch thick using a rolling pin.
  6. Prepare Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, mix melted butter, finely chopped garlic, and chopped coriander leaves to create the garlic butter topping.
  7. Brush with Garlic Butter: Lightly brush the top of each rolled naan with the garlic butter mixture before cooking.
  8. Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Cook in Air Fryer: Lightly grease the air fryer basket with oil. Place one naan at a time inside and air fry for 7-8 minutes on one side until slightly golden. Do not flip, as cooking both sides may make the naan hard.
  10. Brush Again After Cooking: Immediately after removing the naan from the air fryer, brush it again with garlic butter for extra flavor and moisture. Repeat the process for the remaining naans.
  11. Serve Warm: Serve the garlic naan warm as a side or snack and enjoy their soft, flavorful texture.

Notes

  • Ensure the yeast is properly activated for the dough to rise well; the mixture should be frothy.
  • Do not flip the naan in the air fryer to keep them soft and tender.
  • You can substitute plain yogurt with Greek yogurt for a richer texture.
  • Brush with garlic butter generously for the best flavor.
  • Store leftover naan in an airtight container and reheat in the air fryer or oven before serving.
