Ingredients
Dough Ingredients
- 1/3 cup warm milk
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons plain yogurt
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons grated garlic
- 3-4 tablespoons water for kneading
Garlic Butter Topping
- 3 tablespoons melted butter
- 2 teaspoons finely chopped garlic
- 2 tablespoons chopped coriander or cilantro leaves
Instructions
- Activate Yeast: Whisk warm milk, active dry yeast, and 1 tablespoon of sugar in a bowl. Cover and let it rest for 5 minutes until frothy on top. If it does not froth, start over with fresh yeast.
- Prepare Dough Mixture: In another bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, plain yogurt, vegetable oil, and grated garlic. Add the activated yeast mixture to this bowl.
- Knead Dough: Mix everything together and gradually add 3-4 tablespoons of water as needed to form a soft, smooth, and elastic dough.
- Let Dough Rise: Lightly grease the dough with oil, cover it with plastic wrap, and place it in a warm spot for at least 2 hours until the dough doubles in size.
- Divide and Shape Dough: Transfer the risen dough to a clean surface. Divide it into 8 equal portions and roll each into a round shape about ½ inch thick using a rolling pin.
- Prepare Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, mix melted butter, finely chopped garlic, and chopped coriander leaves to create the garlic butter topping.
- Brush with Garlic Butter: Lightly brush the top of each rolled naan with the garlic butter mixture before cooking.
- Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook in Air Fryer: Lightly grease the air fryer basket with oil. Place one naan at a time inside and air fry for 7-8 minutes on one side until slightly golden. Do not flip, as cooking both sides may make the naan hard.
- Brush Again After Cooking: Immediately after removing the naan from the air fryer, brush it again with garlic butter for extra flavor and moisture. Repeat the process for the remaining naans.
- Serve Warm: Serve the garlic naan warm as a side or snack and enjoy their soft, flavorful texture.
Notes
- Ensure the yeast is properly activated for the dough to rise well; the mixture should be frothy.
- Do not flip the naan in the air fryer to keep them soft and tender.
- You can substitute plain yogurt with Greek yogurt for a richer texture.
- Brush with garlic butter generously for the best flavor.
- Store leftover naan in an airtight container and reheat in the air fryer or oven before serving.
