Description
Funnel cake bites are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and dusted with powdered sugar. This easy homemade version captures the magic of fairground treats in bite-sized form.
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 2/3 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
- Heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and granulated sugar.
- In another bowl, mix milk, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until smooth.
- Using a spoon or small scoop, drop batter into the hot oil, without overcrowding.
- Fry for 2–3 minutes on each side, until golden brown.
- Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm.
Notes
- For a spiced variation, add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the batter.
- Serve with chocolate or caramel sauce for extra indulgence.
- Try pairing with berry compote or strawberry jam for a fruity twist.
- Best eaten fresh, but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
- Reheat in a 350°F oven for 5–7 minutes to regain crispiness.
