Ingredients
- 10 mozzarella string cheese sticks
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 cup Italian bread crumbs
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- Cut each mozzarella stick into 4–5 bite-sized pieces and keep them chilled until ready to bread.
- Set up three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs and milk, and one with Italian bread crumbs mixed with cayenne pepper if using.
- Coat each cheese piece in flour, then dip in the egg mixture, and roll in bread crumbs. For extra crispiness, double dip in egg and crumbs.
- Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a skillet to 350°F.
- Fry 5–7 pieces at a time for about 30 seconds until golden, then transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
- Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce like marinara or ranch.
Notes
- Keep cheese cold before frying to help retain shape.
- Double breading helps prevent cheese leaks and adds crunch.
- Can be frozen after breading and fried straight from frozen.
- Air fryer or baking options available for a lighter version.
