Description
Creamy Smothered Chicken Rice is a cozy one-pan dish featuring tender chicken breasts in a velvety, savory cream sauce, served over fluffy rice. It’s a comforting and satisfying meal perfect for busy weeknights.
Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 cup heavy cream (or half-and-half)
- 2 cups cooked white rice
- Chopped fresh parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- Pat the chicken breasts dry and season both sides with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat with olive oil and sear the chicken for about 4–5 minutes per side until golden. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, pour in the chicken broth, scraping up browned bits from the bottom.
- Reduce to medium heat, whisk in the heavy cream, and simmer for 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Return the chicken to the skillet, nestling it into the sauce. Cover and simmer for 8–10 minutes until cooked through.
- Warm the rice and spoon it onto plates. Top with chicken and generous amounts of the creamy sauce.
- Garnish with chopped parsley and serve immediately.
Notes
- Swap heavy cream with coconut milk for a dairy-free version.
- Use chicken thighs for juicier results.
- Add vegetables like peas, spinach, or mushrooms for variety.
- Ensure chicken broth is gluten-free if needed.
