Description

This Classic Pea Salad is a creamy, crunchy side dish made with sweet green peas, crisp vegetables, and a tangy dressing. It’s refreshing, colorful, and easy to prepare—perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 bag (16 oz) frozen peas, thawed (or 2 cups fresh peas)
  • 1/2 cup diced red bell pepper
  • 1/2 cup diced celery
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream (or Greek yogurt)
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 12 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Thaw the peas by rinsing them under cool water or letting them sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
  2. Dice the red bell pepper, celery, and onion into small, uniform pieces.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sour cream, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the peas, chopped vegetables, and cheese (if using).
  5. Pour the dressing over the pea mixture and toss gently to coat.
  6. Cover and chill the salad in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving.

Notes

  • Use dairy-free mayo and skip cheese for a dairy-free version.
  • Swap mayo with Greek yogurt or light mayo for a lower-calorie option.
  • Add extra veggies like cucumbers, carrots, or cherry tomatoes for variation.
  • Fresh herbs like dill, parsley, or chives can enhance the flavor.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
