Instructions
- Make Filling: In a bowl, beat cream cheese, sugar, egg, and vanilla until smooth. Set aside.
- Make Cake Batter: In one bowl, whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar. In another, mix oil, eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla. Combine wet and dry ingredients, then stir in hot water or coffee until smooth.
- Assemble Cake: Pour half the batter into a greased bundt or loaf pan. Spoon cream cheese mixture over the batter, avoiding the edges. Pour remaining batter on top.
- Bake: Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick (inserted into the cake part) comes out clean. Cool in pan 10–15 minutes, then turn out and cool completely.
- Finish: Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with chocolate glaze once cooled.
