Juicy, flavorful chicken koftas made with ground chicken, herbs, and warm spices, grilled to perfection and served with a tangy garlic yogurt sauce. A quick and satisfying dish with bold Middle Eastern flavors.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground chicken
- 1 small onion, finely chopped or grated
- 2 cloves garlic, minced (plus 1 extra for sauce)
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp olive oil (for grilling)
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- Pinch of salt (for sauce)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground chicken, onion, garlic, parsley, cumin, coriander, salt, and black pepper. Mix well using your hands until fully combined.
- With damp hands, shape the mixture into oval-shaped patties (koftas) and set aside.
- Heat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Brush with olive oil and cook the koftas for 5–7 minutes per side, or until fully cooked and golden brown.
- Meanwhile, prepare the garlic yogurt sauce by mixing yogurt, lemon juice, 1 minced garlic clove, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
- Serve the grilled koftas warm, drizzled with garlic yogurt sauce or with the sauce on the side for dipping.
Notes
- Add red pepper flakes for heat.
- Swap parsley for cilantro or mint for a different flavor.
- Mix in crumbled feta for richness.
- Use mashed chickpeas and grated vegetables for a vegetarian version.
- Add pine nuts or chopped almonds for texture.
