Description

These Cheddar Bay Biscuits are a homemade version of the popular Red Lobster biscuits. Flaky, buttery, cheesy, and ready in just 20 minutes, they’re perfect as a side dish or enjoyed on their own.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt, divided
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter (1 1/2 sticks), divided
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 8 ounces shredded mild cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small microwave-safe bowl, melt 1 stick (1/2 cup) of butter in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, garlic powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Whisk until well combined.
  4. Add the melted butter and milk to the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined; be careful not to overmix.
  5. Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese until evenly distributed.
  6. Drop heaping spoonfuls of the dough onto the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.
  8. While the biscuits are baking, melt the remaining 1/2 stick (1/4 cup) of butter in a small bowl. Stir in the remaining 1/4 teaspoon of salt and the dried parsley.
  9. Once the biscuits are done, remove them from the oven and immediately brush the tops with the melted butter mixture.
  10. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a garlic butter topping, melt some butter with garlic powder and parsley, then brush over the biscuits.
  • You can experiment with different cheeses like Pepper Jack or mozzarella for varied flavors.
  • Adding fresh herbs like chives or thyme can enhance the flavor of the biscuits.
  • For gluten-free biscuits, substitute with a gluten-free all-purpose flour blend that contains xanthan gum.
