Description
Tender ground chicken and bold Cajun spices in a creamy, cheesy sauce, piled onto soft buns for a fun twist on the classic Sloppy Joe.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground chicken
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- ½ onion, finely diced
- 1 bell pepper, finely diced
- 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 Tbsp Cajun seasoning
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- ¼ cup chicken broth
- ¼–½ cup heavy cream
- ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
- ¼ cup shredded mozzarella cheese (optional)
- 4 burger buns, toasted
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté onion and bell pepper until softened, about 3–4 minutes, then add garlic and cook for another minute.
- Add ground chicken, breaking it up as it cooks. Sprinkle in Cajun seasoning and season with salt and pepper. Cook until the chicken is no longer pink, about 5–7 minutes.
- Pour in chicken broth and heavy cream, stirring to combine. Let it simmer for 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Stir in cheddar (and mozzarella if using) until melted and creamy.
- Spoon the mixture onto toasted buns and serve hot.
Notes
- Spicy kick: Add jalapeños or extra cayenne for more heat.
- Healthier: Swap heavy cream for Greek yogurt or low-fat sour cream.
- Vegetarian: Use crumbled tofu, tempeh, or plant-based ground meat with veggie broth.
- Cheese-loaded: Stir in extra pepper jack or cheddar for richness.
- Different serving styles: Try it in lettuce wraps, over rice, or in baked potatoes.
- Storage: Store in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
