Description

Tender ground chicken and bold Cajun spices in a creamy, cheesy sauce, piled onto soft buns for a fun twist on the classic Sloppy Joe.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • ½ onion, finely diced
  • 1 bell pepper, finely diced
  • 23 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 Tbsp Cajun seasoning
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • ¼ cup chicken broth
  • ¼½ cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ¼ cup shredded mozzarella cheese (optional)
  • 4 burger buns, toasted

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté onion and bell pepper until softened, about 3–4 minutes, then add garlic and cook for another minute.
  2. Add ground chicken, breaking it up as it cooks. Sprinkle in Cajun seasoning and season with salt and pepper. Cook until the chicken is no longer pink, about 5–7 minutes.
  3. Pour in chicken broth and heavy cream, stirring to combine. Let it simmer for 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened.
  4. Stir in cheddar (and mozzarella if using) until melted and creamy.
  5. Spoon the mixture onto toasted buns and serve hot.

Notes

  • Spicy kick: Add jalapeños or extra cayenne for more heat.
  • Healthier: Swap heavy cream for Greek yogurt or low-fat sour cream.
  • Vegetarian: Use crumbled tofu, tempeh, or plant-based ground meat with veggie broth.
  • Cheese-loaded: Stir in extra pepper jack or cheddar for richness.
  • Different serving styles: Try it in lettuce wraps, over rice, or in baked potatoes.
  • Storage: Store in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
