Ingredients
- ⅓ cup + 2 ½ tablespoons lukewarm water
- 2¾ tablespoons lukewarm milk
- ¾ teaspoon active dry yeast
- 2 cups all-purpose or bread flour
- ½ tablespoon granulated sugar
- ½ tablespoon soft butter
- ¾ teaspoon salt
- 3½ ounces shredded cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or your favorite)
- Egg Wash:
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- Extras:
- 2–3 tablespoons shredded cheese for topping
Instructions
- Combine lukewarm water and milk in a bowl. Sprinkle yeast over and let sit for 5–10 minutes, then stir gently.
- Add flour, sugar, butter, and salt. Knead until the dough forms. Continue kneading for 5–7 minutes, then mix in shredded cheese until evenly incorporated.
- Shape dough into a smooth ball on a floured surface. Cover with a tea towel and let rest for 25 minutes.
- Divide dough into 6 pieces. Shape into balls and place on a baking sheet. Let rise covered in a warm place until doubled, about 1–2 hours.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Brush buns with egg wash or milk and sprinkle with cheese.
- Bake for 15–20 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly before serving.
