Description

A cozy and simple dessert made with caramelized Granny Smith apples topped with a golden, buttery crumble. Perfect for weeknights or special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 8 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • lb Granny Smith apples (about 67 cups), peeled, cored, and chopped
  • ½ cup granulated sugar (or brown sugar)
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 Tbsp cornstarch or all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 °F and lightly spray an 8 or 9‑inch baking dish.
  2. To make the crumble topping, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Stir in the melted butter with a fork until crumbly.
  3. For the filling, toss apples with sugar, lemon juice, cornstarch (or flour), salt, and cinnamon in a large bowl.
  4. Spread the apple mixture evenly in the baking dish and sprinkle the crumble topping on top.
  5. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes, until the filling is bubbling and the topping is golden brown.
  6. Let it rest for about 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Mix Honeycrisp with Granny Smith for a balanced flavor.
  • Add a splash of vanilla extract to the filling for extra warmth.
  • Top with chopped nuts or caramel sauce for enhanced texture and flavor.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
  • Reheat in oven at 350 °F for 10 minutes for best texture.
