Description

Amish Cinnamon Sugar Coffee Cake is a soft, tender cake with a delightful cinnamon-sugar swirl and a buttery flavor. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a cozy snack, this easy-to-make recipe is a family favorite. The sweet cinnamon topping adds the perfect crunch, making it a delightful treat with coffee or tea.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round or square pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until fluffy, about 3 minutes.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Alternately add the dry ingredients and sour cream to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. For the topping: Mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  7. Spoon half of the batter into the prepared pan, spread evenly. Sprinkle with half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Add the remaining batter and swirl the topping with a knife or toothpick.
  8. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  9. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Nutty Version: Add 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans to the batter for extra crunch.
  • Glazed Version: Drizzle with a simple glaze made from powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla.
  • Fruit Version: Add 1 cup of berries like blueberries or raspberries for a fruity twist.
