Description

These Honey Cookies are a deliciously sweet treat featuring browned butter and the natural sweetness of honey. With a hint of cinnamon and a soft, chewy texture, they make the perfect snack or dessert to enjoy with tea or coffee. Easy to prepare and quick to bake, these cookies deliver rich flavor and warm aromas in under 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

  • 4 oz salted butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the cookies.
  2. Brown Butter: In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, cook the salted butter until it turns golden brown and develops a nutty aroma. This adds depth of flavor to the cookies.
  3. Add Sugar and Honey: To the browned butter, add sugar and honey, then heat over low heat until the sugar completely dissolves. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool to room temperature to avoid cooking the eggs in the next step.
  4. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine the cooled honey-butter mixture with the egg, vanilla extract, salt, baking soda, and cinnamon. Stir well to blend all the flavors evenly.
  5. Add Flour: Gradually add the all-purpose flour to the wet mixture, stirring continuously until fully incorporated and a dough forms.
  6. Form Cookies: Drop the dough by teaspoonfuls onto cookie sheets spaced about 2 inches apart. Optionally, press the tops with a fork to create a decorative pattern.
  7. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 8-9 minutes, until the edges turn lightly golden. Be careful not to overbake to maintain a soft, chewy texture.

Notes

  • Use salted butter as specified to enhance flavor; if using unsalted butter, add a pinch extra salt.
  • Do not overbake to keep cookies soft and chewy.
  • Pressing the cookies with a fork before baking can create a classic design but is optional.
  • You can store cookies in an airtight container for up to one week.
  • For a nuttier flavor, consider adding chopped nuts to the dough.
