Description

Garlic Butter Rice is a rich, aromatic, and flavorful side dish made with simple pantry staples. Butter and garlic transform plain rice into a deliciously satisfying accompaniment that pairs perfectly with a variety of proteins and vegetables.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup long grain white rice (such as basmati or jasmine)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 cups chicken broth (or water for a vegetarian version)
  • ½ teaspoon salt (adjust if using salted broth)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  3. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, without browning.
  4. Stir in the rinsed rice and toast it in the garlic butter for 1–2 minutes.
  5. Pour in the chicken broth, add salt and pepper, and bring to a boil.
  6. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15–18 minutes until the rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
  7. Remove from heat and let sit covered for 5 minutes.
  8. Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Use vegetable broth for a vegetarian version.
  • Add a squeeze of lemon juice or grated Parmesan for variations.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
  • Reheat with a splash of water or broth to maintain moisture.
